In all honesty, I did not know that people had been commenting on my blog until Laura just mentioned to me that she hadn't seen a recent comment of hers pop up. So I decided to check out my dashboard. A long time ago, I had some spam, so I decided to moderate and approve all blog comments. That way, my posts weren't plastered in spam, and Blogger would also niftily (totally making this a word) flash me a headline in red letters that I had blog comments. I was able to see who was commenting and when, so I could respond and engage in some great conversations with people.
Apparently, several months ago, Blogger stopped notifying me about blog comments that I needed to approve. I did start noticing an absence of red-lettered notifications, and I just assumed that no one was commenting on my blog. And now, since Laura brought it up, I dug around my Blogger account and found a folder off to the side where apparently all of these comments have been going. It looks like well over a hundred comments have been piling up there since November. Yikes!
From the depths of my heart, I apologize for not responding to any of your amazing comments! I am blown away that y'all have been engaging with my thoughts and posts on this small blog, and that even when I never responded to your comments, you kept coming back. Seriously, y'all amaze me with your loyalty and kindness.
This is incredibly awkward, and I feel really bad about it. I will be going through my insane backlog of comments because I really am looking forward to reading y'alls thoughts, and I'll be trying to respond to as many of you as I can. So if you awkwardly get a response to a blog comment you made 6 months ago, that's why.
I've always identified with Anne Shirley (from Anne of Green Gables) because of my temper and ability to get into scrapes. Well, I think this terribly awkward incident just reaffirms my likeness to my beloved literary heroine.
I'm not kidding when I say that I'm oblivious, since I didn't know this was happening. I'm also really, really bad with technology. I use Blogger because it seems very simple and straightforward, but clearly it's too much for my small brain to handle. Have any of you had problems with blog comments showing up? Do you have any advice for me?
Hope your problem solved. Been using the Reactions but will try comments. All this crazy technology stuff is hard to put up with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the solidarity, Joseph! It is so challenging to keep up with technology. I played around with the comments settings, so hopefully there won't be any more problems.
DeleteThat's hilarious! Don't feel bad. I assumed it was because you were being humble and not trying to display how many comments you got! I'll start commenting again for sure now that I realize you are getting them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ann-Marie! You are so kind. It makes me feel better that you find humor in the situation. Life is always exciting over here!
DeleteYay! So glad you caught this problem! :)
ReplyDeleteha! Technology! So that's why I recently got a whole bunch of responses from you! I've always done the respond via email method if I can, but not all bloggers have their accounts set up for responses, and sometimes I can't find their email address anywhere. So I don't stress about responding to every comment...but it's good to keep the conversation going when you can!
ReplyDeleteI noticed the comments weren't appearing, but I figured you intentionally shut them down for a time because it takes so much work to keep up with them. I wish I would have said something. :-(
ReplyDeleteEven though I wasn't commenting, I still kept up with your posts.
No worries! I found out eventually :) Thanks for reading! I love reading your posts, too, but it's hard for me to comment frequently because I usually read them while holding a toddler, making it hard to type on the keyboard (I'm guessing you know what that's like!).
