Three Years of Awesomeness...Another Glorious Marriage Anniversary!

Happy Feast of St. Clare! Yesterday, I was so blessed to celebrate three glorious years of marriage with my husband. This year was especially meaningful to me, because it marked our first full year of marriage as non-college students. It's really interesting how getting married, finishing our last two years of undergrad, and then moving to another state can change one's perspective. In a way, to me, it feels like we got married yesterday, the way things have flown by. At the same time, it feels like we've been married for a very long time, since we moved to Oklahoma a year ago, and our lives here are so different and so far removed from the first two years of marriage as college kids in Ohio. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it's my weird musings on time this week. Time, why do you have to be so weird and complicated? 

Anyways, marriage is epic, and I believe that anniversaries are great days to celebrate marriage in a special way! We usually keep things fairly low-key (but fun!) on our anniversary, and this year was no different. 



I really like themed parties (Star Wars for our first anniversary, Avatar for our second anniversary), so naturally, I wanted us to do a themed party again. But what theme to go with? And how much work did we really want to put forth? Life has been full very full lately, so neither of us had really taken much time to ponder a themed anniversary party. Since we've been putting a lot of energy into taking care of ourselves, each other, and the baby, it's not like we had a lot of energy to do anything too crazy, either. 

As I mentioned a while back, we played a lot of Civilization V together in the first several weeks of postpartum. We really enjoy that game, and Jacob wanted to play it together on our anniversary. So, Civ V party it was! Since the game is all about different civilizations creating cultures and empires, I figured that we could have a couple types of food which related to different cultures. 

I think this may be one of my favorite non-
chocolate desserty recipes now. So simple & good! 

Jacob surprised me by bringing home some churros from a taco place which we had as an appetizer, and then we made sushi rolls for our dinner (I hadn't gotten much of the prep work done while Jacob was gone, since Peter was pretty fussy, so Jacob awesomely did most of the prep work when he came home while I consoled Peter). I didn't get a picture of the sushi, but somehow the rolls managed to stay intact (they usually fall apart because we over-fill them) and they looked totally awesome. And tasted great! We then feasted on Greek Honey Cake for dessert while playing Civilization V. It was so much fun! Super low-key, but it was fantastic, especially since we've been so here-and-there lately with gatherings, taking care of Peter, and life in general. 

Marriage is fantastic and wonderful, and I'm so excited to see what adventures God has in store for us! 

3 years later, and we're still cleaning up each other's messes :)
